There are several ongoing programs and services that the Friends of the Chanhassen Library sponsor. For listing of current programs at the Chanhassen Library please check the Carver County web site and look for CN (noting the Chanhassen branch). The web site is www.carverlib.org
Lucky Day Book Collection
This collection of best sellers and new releases is available on a first come/first serve basis. The books are available to be checked out for two weeks but are not renewable and cannot be reserved. A reader may also put their name on the library waiting list for a best seller but for the most popular best-sellers that may take several weeks of waiting! If the book is found on this shelf it is "your lucky day". The Lucky Day collection is located across from the service desk at the entry of the Children's Library. Ask a librarian if you need help. Book Club in A Bag
A great resource for Book Clubs is Book Club in a Bag. These tote bags include 10 copies of the same book for use by book clubs. Each kit may be checked out for a six week period. (The individual who checks out the bag is responsible for the entire kit, both fines and replacement fees. ) In addition to the 10 paperback copies of popular book club books, the totes also include discussion questions, author information, reviews, literary analysis if available, book club advice, and assorted other resources. These kits can be reserved online through the Carver County Library web site, www.carverlib.org. Over 50 kits are currently available for youth and adults. |
Book Sales
Book sales are one of the most popular events of the Friends! Everyone who loves books enjoys hunting through stacks to find that hidden treasure or treasures! Books and other materials for sale are a combination of donations and items no longer in circulation at the library. Donations of used books are accepted year-round as space permits. You may leave your donations at the front desk with tax receipts available. Sales are held in the Spring and Fall - with year - round sales in the library cafe area. Summer Reading Program
One of the Friends of the Chanhassen Library's most significant sponsorship is for the Summer Reading Program. This popular program encourages children to continue reading throughout the summer to maintain their reading skill levels. This emphasis on reading and literacy develops better-educated children with more potential for success. For more info, go to the Summer Reading page. Click here. Other Services
While these are the core programs and services that FOCL supports, there are many other services and support that are provided throughout the year. A few other examples are refreshments for author talks, craft supplies for Super StoryTimes, Kids' STEM program, and various equipment needs that come up (display panels, acrylic ladders for display, coatrack for Wilder Room, etc.) |
